ORIGINATOR OF SFNT
Brief therapy training that helps counselors and therapists get results faster by building on client strengths and rewriting problem-saturated stories.

Learn the model, earn CEUs, and pursue official certification to integrate strengths-based brief therapy into your clinical practice.
Training and consulting for school counselors, teachers, and districts to re-engage students without labels or punishment.
A brief, respectful approach that combines the precision of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy with the externalizing power of Narrative Therapy.
Solution-Focused Brief Therapy provides the structure to look forward. By utilizing precision questions, we help clients identify their preferred future and uncover the resources they already possess, creating momentum toward change rather than dwelling in the past.

Narrative Therapy brings the power to rewrite problem-saturated stories. By externalizing the issue, clients realize they are not the problem: the problem is the problem. This respectful separation allows genuine healing to begin.
Accelerate client breakthroughs and reduce clinical burnout with a framework that honors their unique stories.
Re-engage struggling students without labels, utilizing a conversational model that creates lasting change.
Deliver effective, brief interventions that respect diverse populations while meeting agency time constraints.
Build confidence early with a structured, strengths-based approach that clients respond to immediately.

Dr. Linda Metcalf’s journey began in the classroom. As a teacher who transitioned into a school counselor and later a licensed therapist, she recognized early on that traditional, problem-focused approaches often left clients feeling stuck. This realization sparked a 35-year dedication to finding a more hopeful path—one that honors the client as the ultimate expert in their own life.
Her clinical foundation is built on direct mentorship from the pioneers of modern therapy. Studying closely under Michael White and David Epston (Narrative Therapy), as well as Insoo Kim Berg, Steve de Shazer, and Bill O'Hanlon (Solution-Focused Brief Therapy), Dr. Metcalf formally integrated these powerful modalities. The result is Solution Focused Narrative Therapy—a respectful, strengths-based approach designed to rewrite problem-saturated stories.
SFNT has completely transformed my private practice. Integrating narrative elements with brief therapy gives me the precise tools to help clients rewrite their stories without getting stuck. My clients feel heard, and we see progress much faster.

As a school counselor, I need approaches that work within the tight constraints of a school day. Dr. Metcalf's model is incredibly practical. We've seen a dramatic shift in student engagement when we focus on their strengths rather than labels.

Linda's training is a breath of fresh air. It respects the client as the expert while providing a clear, respectful framework for the clinician. It has completely renewed my energy and passion for this work after 15 years in the field.
